It is a dog harness for leisure activities, where the dog is in front. During mantrailing, the dog searches for a specific person, follows their individual scent, no matter what terrain. In canicross and other sporting activities where you run on a leash, the dog also runs in front of his master and can pull his master, who holds the leash.

The Mantrailing/Outdoor dog harness from JULIUS K9® has been explicitly designed for activities where you have to search and run for people.

The dog harness, which fits anatomically perfectly, has elastic leash fixation, ensures optimal comfort for the dog even when it has to exert considerable pulling force. When designing the harness, we paid special attention to the fact that the load is distributed exclusively on the chest instead of the neck. The development of the mantrailing harness took place in cooperation with the trainers of the Mantrailing Academy in Budapest. After a four-month test phase, the product was presented at the INBTI seminar in spring 2017.

2020 update: In the meantime, the models have been further developed. The cut of the chest pads is even more ergonomic than the predecessor. Instead of the old D-ring, there is now a lamp socket (lamp will be available separately). The straps between the neck element and the chest pillow now have a reflective strip.

*The choice of size also depends on the stature of the dog: the dogs that would have the size M from the weight and chest circumference, but their body is more elongated, for them you can also choose the size L.

Fitting the mantrailing / outdoor harness

When attaching the mantrailing harness, we can hold the dog between our legs: the dog looks forward, we hold it with our knees, in front of the hind legs at the loin. If the dog does not like this way of attachment, then the special harness can also be attached standing next to him. If the dog does not mind the harness being placed over his head, it is enough to open only the two buckles of the back element. We pull the strap that connects the neck element with the chest pad over the head, so the neck and back element rests on the dog's back, we put the chest pad on the dog's chest. Lastly, we attach the two rear buckles to the back element. If the dog does not like putting the harness over the head, then we can do it with the change by opening one buckle belonging to the neck element before attaching it as well.

Adjustment of the mantrailing / outdoor harness

The upper edge of the chest pad should come to the lower line of the dog's neck - if it is higher, then it can press on the trachea. The straps leading to the neck element should be tight enough so that the top edge of the chest pillow is at the correct height and the pillow hugs the dog's chest. The distance between the neck element and the back element can be adjusted to the handler's liking, but it should not be behind the line of the dog's two hind legs. The back element should be moved back far enough so that the lower straps of the chest pad do not interfere with the front legs moving freely and do not cause abrasions. The straps must be tight enough to fit our hand under the back element. It must not be too loose, because then it can move sideways during work. When standing, the harness may appear to be too loose - the connecting strap between the neck and back element may even tighten - but this changes as soon as the dog goes off and starts pulling. Then all the straps and elements come into place.

Safety

The elastic attachment of the leash protects both the joints of the handler and the dog from the harmful consequences of a jerk. It protects the search dog from unwanted leash pulls. Mantrailing dog harness is designed for search work and for active outdoor movements, where the dog can pull at will (mantrailing, movement with bicycle, hobby running with dog).

Warnings

During a backward movement the dog can slip out of the harness! Pay attention to the adjustment of the harness so that it fits snugly to the body! If the dog comes next to or possibly behind the handler during exercise, the leash must be re-hooked into the neck strap or attach a snap hook into the front ring to hold the leash. The dog harness is not suitable for lifting the dog!
